Taddy takes win over Geoff Aaron and Cory Graffunder

Taddy won his heat race and battled with Geoff Aaron in the main for the win.

Las Vegas, NV (July 17, 2010) – Taddy Blazusiak, the defending EnduroCross champion rode his Red Bull KTM to a hard fought victory over Geico, Christini backed Geoff Aaron. Zip Ty Husqvarna mounted Cory Graffunder came out on top of a dog fight for the final podium spot over FMF KTM’s Mike Brown and Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Justin Soule.

Aaron, the ten time National Trials champion got the day started by setting the fastest time during the Pioneer Hot Lap that determine the gate picks for the evenings heat races. He also earned a $500 bonus from Rekluse clutch by being the fastest rider using their auto clutch. Mike Brown and Cody Webb, one of the top American Trials riders showed that he is quickly learning how to race EnduroCross by posting the third fastest time.

Blazusiak, Brown and Graffunder were the heat race winners and earned the best gate picks for the main event. The biggest surprise of the night was the fact that Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ricky Dietrich, the 2008 EnduroCross champion, did not qualify for the main after crashing while in a qualifying spot during the Last Chance Qualifier. He was joined on the sidelines by Lucas Oil backed Colton Haaker, last year’s E3 Spark Plugs Junior Champion that also had a very rough evening.

Blazusiak earned the $750 Girardi Wealth management holeshot award but was quickly passed by Geoff Aaron. The two riders swapped the lead several times during the first half of the race until Aaron made a small mistake and fell over in the GEICO rock garden. That gave Blazusiak a small lead that he managed hold for the remainder of the race. The battle for third included Graffunder, Brown, Soule, Gary Sutherlin, Kyle Redmund, and Cody Webb. Webb appeared to have the final podium spot under control before crashing in the Monster water hole and then Graffunder temporarily handed the position away but fought back to get on the podium. Brown rode a steady race to earn forth position ahead of Soule. All of these riders had a shot at the podium and provided some great racing action for the enthusiastic crowd.

Race Report: OMA Rnd 5, Mesick, Michigan
Rider: Paul Whibley
Team: AmPro Yamaha
Bike: Yamaha YZ 450
Result: 1st

With the go ahead to start testing and development of the YZ for racing full time in 2011 I lined up with the 450 MXer at the latest OMA.

An average start and dusty conditions gave me a big challenge to work my way back to the front. The first few miles it was so dusty, all I could do was to stay on track. When we moved into the tighter fresh tracks I was able to pick up some of the slack and latch back onto the guys in front. Picking guys off whenever the chance was presented, I worked my way forward and within 3 laps moved into the lead when I passed Thad Duvall on the side of the track. I came in for fuel at the end of the third lap and had began to build a small lead over Scotty Watkins who was now running second. The track got better as the race worn on with the sand based soil forming some nice lines through the trees. As the race continued I was also able to get a good feeling with the YZ in the trees and appreciate its balance and nimbleness in threading through the tight woods.
I continued to put in safe laps and pushed my lead out to over a minute.

The YZ performed great and passed its first test with ease. I’m looking forward to getting back into the points battle for the OMA title. With 5 rounds still to go and only a handful more points to make up I’m confident we can make it an exciting close to the season.

Three US Highland executives lost their lives when their private plane crashed this past Saturday

Three executives of the US Highland Motorcycle company tragically lost their lives this past Saturday near Tulsa, Oklahoma when they plane they were flying in crashed. Chase Bales, Damian Riddoch, and Mats Malmberg were all partners in US Highland and were the only three aboard the plane. Bales, the COO and co-owner of the company was piloting the plane, and reported over the aircraft’s radio that they were low on fuel just before the plane crashed. Many of you may remember that US Highland made their GNCC racing debut this year at the Florida GNCC with a bike ridden by Jakob Morehed (not aboard the plane).

About Craig Morgan:
When Craig Morgan was ten years old and on a school field trip to Nashville, he sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” well enough to catch the ear of a distinctive older lady in the crowd. “She walked up to me and said, ‘Son, someday you’re gonna be a famous singer,’” Morgan remembers. Two-plus decades later, he’d be looking at a picture of the woman—Minnie Pearl—in the Ryman Auditorium dressing room that bears her name, getting ready for his first performance on the Grand Ole Opry. What Minnie didn’t know was that before his moment in the spotlight finally came, Morgan would be an EMT, a contractor, a sheriff’s deputy and a -Wal-Mart assistant dairy manager. He’d also spend ten years serving his country in the U.S. Army.

About Billy’s Place:
The mission of the Craig Morgan Charity Fund is to build and maintain a home called Billy’s Place for temporarily displaced children in Dickson County Tennessee and to provide lasting funding to the home and various other children’s organizations whose primary goal is to ensure the well-being of children, integrating outdoor activities in their daily lives with the long term goal of starting such homes around the country.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available-visit Craig’s web site to contact the event.

GNCC XC2 Champ to race 450 class at Red Bud National

Murrieta, CA - FMF/KTM XC2 GNCC Factory rider, Kailub Russell, will make his professional motocross debut in the 450 class at this weekend’s Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship round in Buchanan, MI.

Russell, the reigning GNCC XC2 Champion, has focused his professional career on off-road racing but has always retained his love for motocross. “I have practiced motocross to help my fitness for the GNCC races and over time I have finessed my skills in that discipline to earn my professional license,” commented Russell. “This race fits perfectly into my schedule as it takes place at the beginning of our two month break from the GNCC Series so I am eager to see how I will perform.”

Most critics will claim that the 450 class is a big step for a rider’s first professional motocross race, but Russell is excited about riding in the big bike class. “I have always felt that I was a stronger rider on the 450 and that is why I have chosen to sign up in the 450 class. I have a KTM 450 XC-F that I will be riding for this event. I practice on it at the local motocross tracks near my home and feel I can be competitive. I really don’t have any expectations for this weekend – my main goal is just to qualify and go from there.”

You can look for Kailub Russell on the #969 bike at the Red Bud National this weekend.
