Better Half: MacKenzie Delph

Cory Buttrick's longtime girlfriend Mackenzie is an integral part of Cory's race program.

How did you and Cory meet?
Cory and I met at an Endurocross. I was the podium and 30 second girl and he saw me at a local race the weekend after and came up to me and I didn’t know who he was!

How long have you been together?
We have been together for about 3 years.

What’s your day job?
I go to school full time and am basically Cory’s assistant! [Laughs]

Did you grow up around racing?
Yes, every weekend was race weekend in my family, my dad races.

Do you know how to ride?
Yes, I sure do know how to ride.

Cory and Mackenzie on the starting line.

What’s your role on race day?
Role on race day, hmm…besides not to worry haha, I do everything but cook, because that’s what his mother does. I get everything together; his gear, his drinks, and mind prepared, etc.

Favorite pit board message?
It’s a joke, but there is a favorite commercial Cory loves and it’s a Keystone beer commercial and I write Keith Stone on the board because in the commercial, Keith is smoooth! And Cory needs to ride smoooooth. [Laughs]

Favorite part about coming to the races?
Watching Corbs kick ass!

Least favorite?
Probably the dust. Yucky!!

Favorite track destination?
Southern races are nice because they’re usually warm! Or the John Penton, it’s nice because it’s so close!

Do you help out with anything during the week before or after a race?
Yes, practically everything, from driving the box van to and from Enduros and GNCCs, cleaning it out, cleaning his gear, goggles, helmet. I’m in charge of him and his mom is in charge of the food!

Winning his home race at last year's Penton was a huge moment in Cory's career.

Does Cory have any pre race superstitions?
Not yet! Well, ok, I take that back, there is something he does before every single race to mentally prepare himself, which is, reading something he wrote himself which is just a reminder of a feeling he had, and to not have that bad feeling, on race day.

What do you guys do for fun on non-race weekends?
There’s not too many off weekends, but still doing some sort of riding/training. And having fun off the bike like going to movies.

What’s one thing Cory likes or likes to do that not many people would know about?
Cory loves to go to this indoor Mountain Bike park up north and ride a bmx bike. He trains his ass off there!

Most memorable moment at the races?
Watching Cory come around the moto track in first place at the Penton!
